Shut down the system by executing the Shutdown Command Procedure. $ @SYS$SYSTEM:SHUTDOWN After VMS shuts down, type CTRL^P HALT.... you will now be in the console mode. The prompt is ">>>" 2. Using the 8500/8550 console commands, power the 8500/8550 off. Open the rear of the cabinet and pull the plastic "T" handle located near the input power cord and set CB1, the Main Circuit Breaker on the H405-A/B Power Controller to the "OFF" (0) position. >>>POWER OFF (CR) Now turn CB1 off Five minutes should be allotted to allow capacitors to bleed down. 3. Use ALL ESD safety precautions to prevent DOA modules in upgrade kit. **************************************************************** * * * C A U T I O N * * * * The module, as all other VAX 8X00 modules, * * contains electrostatic discharge sensitive * * devices (ESDS). The use of the VELOSTAT * * is essential to prevent damage which may * * not be noticed immediately. * * * **************************************************************** 4. Set up the Velostat Kit: a. Unfold the VELOSTAT mat to full size (24" x 24"). b. Attach the 15 foot ground cord to the VELOSTAT snap fastener on the mat. c. Attach the alligator clip end of the ground cord to a good ground on the 85X0. d. Attach the wrist strap to either wrist and the alligator clip to a convenient portion of the mat. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | FCO 85XBA-I003 | | | | | | | | | |d|i|g|i|t|a|l| | PAGE 3 OF 4 |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| | | _______________________________|_________________________________________ 5. The H7176-A is located at the bottom of the cabinet in the 70-23575 or the 70-23145 rack. The unit is the left hand module. Locate the thumbscrew at the top of the H7176-A front panel and unscrew (counterclockwise) setting the circuit breaker on the H7176 to the OFF (down) position. 6. Remove the module from it's CPU option slot and place it on the mat. 7. Check the revision of the H7176-A module. If the H7176-A is at Rev "C2" reinstall it in the same slot and proceed to step 10. If the H7176-A is below revision "C2" proceed to step 8. 8. Insert the replacement module EQ-01460-01 (Rev "C2" or higher) taking care to ensure that it is inserted correctly into the guides. Gently slide module in and engage the connector. Tighten the thumbscrew (turn clockwise). 9. Package the old rev module in the same ESD container and return the old H7176-A ASAP to designated repair center for upgrade. 10. Make sure the circuit breaker on the H7176-A is turned ON (up) position. 11. Set the circuit breaker CB1 on the H405-A/B Power Controller to the ON (1) position. At this point, the console device will do a self check. Close and latch the cabinet doors. Power up the CPU by typing the following command: >>>POWER ON 12. Bring up the VMS Operating System. 13. Update the Site Management Guide to reflect this FCO. 14. Report this FCO activity on the LARS form in the "Fail Area/ Module/FCO/Comments" column as follows: FCO 85XBA-I003 (See page 4 for further instructions). _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | FCO 85XBA-I003 | | | | | | | | | |d|i|g|i|t|a|l| | PAGE 4 OF 4 |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| | | _______________________________|_________________________________________ LARS USA & GIA EUR Activity - Contract and Warranty W or Y or Non Contract/Non Warranty F F DEC Option VAX 8500/8550 VAX 8500/8550 Type of Call M M Action Taken D I Fail Area-Module-FCO-Comments 85XBA-I003 85XBA-I003 Material Used EQ-01460-01 EQ-01460-01 \^ 85XBA \\85XBA \\MACY \\1987 \\MAY \\FCO_DOCS
