_ FCO DSRVD-O001 (DAS), DECserver 90L errors & slow echoing chars ______________________________________________________________________________ | DIGITAL FCO CATEGORY PAGE 1 | | [O] OF 2 | |______________________________________________________________________________| | FIELD CHANGE ORDER NUMBER: DSRVD-O001 | |______________________________________________________________________________| | APPLICABILITY: Replace "as needed" DSRVD modules, below Revision Level "A" | | for customers experiencing problems as noted in the Problem/Symptom Section | | of this FCO document. This FCO accomplishes an upgrade for the DSRVD | | terminal server, for U.S. Digital Assisted Service Customers. | | | |______________________________________________________________________________| | PROBLEM & SYMPTOM: This FCO addresses two problems with the DECserver 90L | | (DSRVD-**) firmware. Terminal and/or printer sessions may be prematurely | | stopped when both printers and terminals are connected to the module and | | have Ethernet circuits to the same network service. When these sessions | | stop, one of the following two error messages is displayed: | | %DS90L-311 Illegal Message | | %DS90L-323 Protocol Error-Invalid Slot Received | | Also, a terminal user connected to a VAX4000 system may perceive that the | | characters echo onto the screen unacceptably slow. | |______________________________________________________________________________| | QUICK CHECK: See Step 7 of this document for testing of the DSRVD. | | | |______________________________________________________________________________| | PRE/CO-REQUISITE FCO: | MTTI HRS | | N/A | .5 Hrs. | |___________________________________________________________________|__________| | TOOL/TEST EQUIPMENT: | | N/A | |______________________________________________________________________________| | FCO PARTS INFORMATION | |______________________________________________________________________________| | FCO KIT NO. | DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS | EQ KIT VARIATION | |______________|____________________________________________| APPLICABILITY | |EQ-01642-01 | DSRVD-M DSRVD Terminal Server | | | | Module | | |FA-04978-01 | FCO Document | | |______________|____________________________________________|__________________| | FCO CHARGING INFORMATION | |______________________________________________________________________________| | WARRANTY/CONTRACT || NONWARRANTY/NONCONTRACT | |___________________________||_________________________________________________| | ON-SITE | OFF-SITE || ON-SITE | OFF-SITE | MATERIAL ONLY | |_____________|_____________||_____________|_____________|_____________________| |TRAVEL/| EQ | | EQ ||TRAVEL/| EQ | | EQ |ORDER-ADMIN,HANDLING | |INSTALL| KIT |INSTALL| KIT ||INSTALL| KIT |INSTALL| KIT |PKG,SHIPPING & EQ KIT| |_______|_____|_______|_____||_______|_____|_______|_____|_____________________| | DEC |DEC | DEC | DEC || CUS | CUS | CUS | CUS | CUS | |_______|_____|_______|_____||_______|_____|_______|_____|_____________________| | APPROVALS | |______________________________________________________________________________| | CSSE |CSL LOGISTICS | CS PRODUCT SAFETY | | Walter Lamy |Joseph Michalski | Robert Brister |___________________|____________________________|_____________________________| | CSSE MANAGER |This document is published | FCO RELEASE DATE | | William Lathinen |on multiple media including | 6 April 1992 | |___________________|hardcopy, Customer Services |_____________________________| | MICROMEDIA |Microfiche Libraries, | FCO REVISION | | Diane MacDonald |Customer Services CD-ROM and| A | |___________________|MDS Microfiche Libraries. |_____________________________| | POPULATION | | PARTS AVAILABILITY | | | | April, 1992 | |___________________|____________________________|_____________________________| _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | FCO DSRVD-O001 | | | | | | | | | |d|i|g|i|t|a|l| | PAGE 2 OF 2 |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| | | _______________________________|_________________________________________ 1. Obtain the Customers permission and perform all necessary procedures to logically remove the DSRVD from the Network. 2. Remove power from the DSRVD by disconnecting the AC power cord from the outlet and remove DC cable from th unit or remove from the DEHUB. ************************************************************************** * *** CAUTION *** * * To assure that the AC power is removed from the unit, the AC power * * cord must be disconnected. (Stand Alone Unit Only) * ************************************************************************** 3. Mark and remove all cables from the DSRVD. 4. Physically remove the DSRVD terminal server from the network. 5. Install the DSRVD Terminal Server upgrade to the network replacing all cables that were removed in Step 3. 6. Plug the AC Power cord into the appropriate AC outlet to power up the unit. 7. Testing of the DSRVD. a) Power-up the unit, one can verify successful completion of the diagnostic by examining the LEDs on the front of the unit. - If the unit is receiving power, the first LED will be lit. - If the unit passed the self test both the first and second LED will be lit. **NOTE** Please allow up to 10 seconds for the self-test then compare the status of the LED's.) b) Upon connecting to a network, the third LED should be lit. c) Connect a terminal to one of the server ports and hit twice to obtain the local terminal server prompt "->". Check the logical link by sending a message from the terminal to a service on the network. On a VAX/VMS system running DECnet, you can send a message by using the REPLY/TERM= command. **NOTE** Please allow up to 45 seconds for the server to connect to the service for the first time. The fourth LED should blink to indicate port activity. \\FCO_DOCS \\DSRVD \^ DSRVD
