_ DOL, FP785-M00C1, VAX FP785 M7540, M7541 and M7542 modules JUL 85

PROBLEM: The benchmark EGYPT D produces incorrect answers. An interim 
solution was to cause double precision multiplication to be executed 
in the CPU instead of the Floating Point Option. 

CORRECTION: Massive chip changes on the M7540, M7541 and M7542 
modules. Allow double precision multiplication to be executed in the 
floating point option by removing the MULD disable on the M7544 
module.

IN-PLANT EFFECTIVITY: NOV 84

FIELD EFFECTIVITY: Retrofit all VAX FP785s to Option Revision Level 
"C1". (See chart on page 5 of this FCO.)

QUICK CHECK: M7540-Change location E8 for 74S194; M7541-Check 
location E2 for 74S194; M7542-Check loaction E3 for 74S194; 
M7544-Check no wire on pin 9 of E65.

This FCO suersedes the original release of 20 March 1985 and provides 
the following changes: On pages 2 and 10, the RX01 (EGYPTD) was 
changed from AS-U112A-AE to AS-U112B-AE.  On page 5, the Quick Check 
now specifies Revision "B1". On page 6 in the Quick Check, the wire 
attaches from E36 pin 1 to E26 pin 10 (instead of to PTH below and to 
the right of E65 pin 7).  On page 10, following the NOTE in step 27, 
more diagnostic information has been provided.

The DEC on-site labor charge will be the time required to install and test
the FCO at the then current hourly rate.

PROBLEM: The M7542 Module fails Poly D instruction when running EVKAC 
at the slow clock.

FIELD EFFECTIVITY: Retrofit all VAX FP785's to Option Revision Level 
"D".

QUICK CHECK: Presence of M7541 Module at Part Rev "E1" (74F08 in 
location E88).

The DEC on-site labor charge will be the time required to install and test
the FCO at the then current hourly rate.

PROBLEM: Fixes problems seen when floating point is run at slow
clock (M7542-MK003). Fixes problems with accuracy of PolyD
instruction (M7540-TW003 & 3A).  

FIELD EFFECTIVITY: All FP785 options should be upgraded to Revision "E".
This FCO implements ECO M7542-MK003 (Part Rev "D1"), 70-20579-MK004
(Part Rev "D1" or "D2"), and M7540-TW003 and M7540-TW003A. (Part Rev "D1"
 or "D2"). Spares stock should also be upgraded. 

QUICK CHECK: M7542 - 74F08 at location E5. M7540 - wire from E37.4 to
E37.8. 70-20579 - wire from B26M2 to E28D1.
