BACKPLANE REWORK ------------------- 1. Shut down system by executing shutdown command procedure. $@SYS$SYSTEM:SHUTDOWN. 2. Set five-position keyswitch on the console panel to OFF and set the Main Circuit Breaker on the power controller to the OFF (0) position. 3. Set all memory power supply switches to the OFF (0) position. +-------------------------------------------------------+ | WARNING | | ------- | | If memory power supply switch is ON and circuit | | breaker on power controller is set to OFF (0) | | battery backup unit (if installed as an option) | | will be turned ON. To turn off battery backup unit, | | memory power supply must be turned OFF. | +-------------------------------------------------------+ 4. Check to see if backplane is at Revision "D1" or "D2" (wire from B26M2 to E28D1). If backplane is not at Revision "D1" or "D2" rework as follows: 5. Remove wires from the following locations: From E09B2 to E12B2. From D10S1 to E09B2. 6. Add wires in the following locations: From A13R1 to A12P2 From E09B2 to E12B2 From A12P2 to D10S1 From E14S2 to E13M2 From B26M2 to E28D1 7. Update the Logic Revision sticker on the lower right side of backplane to indicate the new rev (rev "C1" goes to rev "D1" and rev "C2" goes to rev "D2"). _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | FCO FP785-E-R003 | | | | | | | | | |d|i|g|i|t|a|l| | PAGE 4 OF 7 |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| | __________________________________|_________________________________________ II. MODULE REPLACEMENT AND VERIFICATION ----------------------------------- M7542 MODULE REPLACEMENT ------------------------ 8. Set up the VELOSTAT Kit: - Unfold the VELOSTAT mat to full size (24x24). - Attach the 15' ground cord to the VELOSTAT snap fastener on the mat. - Attach the alligator clip end of the ground cord to a good ground on the 11/785. - Attach the wrist strap to either wrist and the alligator clip to a convenient portion of the mat. 9. Remove the M7542 module from slot 26 and place it on the mat. Check the module revision. If the module is at Revision "D1" replace the module in slot 26. If it is below Revision "D1" return the module ASAP for upgrade. 10. Place the box (EQ-01431-01) with the new M7542 module on the VELOSTAT Mat. 11. Remove the module from the box and the protective covering and lay it on the VELOSTAT mat. This will bring the module to the same potential as the CPU and eliminate static discharge damage. 12. Inspect module to insure that it is at revision "D1". 13. Install the new module in slot 26. 14. Remove module M7540 from slot 24 and place it on the mat. 15. Inspect the removed M7540 module; . If it is at Rev "C1" or lower, the module must be replaced with Rev "D1" or higher; proceed to step 16. . If it is at Rev "D1", check for the following rework: Wire from E37.4 to E37.8; If this rework is present, reinstall the module in slot 24 and proceed to step 25. If the rework is NOT present, the M7540 must be REPLACED or REWORKED to include this wire change. To REPLACE the module, proceed to step 16; to REWORK the M7540 module, proceed to step 21. . Rev "D2" M7540 modules have the rework and do not need to be checked or replaced. Note: Some number of Rev "D1" modules have been shipped from manufacturing without the above rework. This has been corrected but ALL Rev "D1" M7540s should be checked. Only Rev D1 modules without the wire from E37.4 to E37.8 can be reworked. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REWORK REV "C1" modules. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | FCO FP785-E-R003 | | | | | | | | | |d|i|g|i|t|a|l| | PAGE 5 OF 7 |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: The M7540 module can be reworked or replaced (EQ-01431-02). If you are reworking the M7540, proceed to step 21. M7540 MODULE REPLACEMENT ------------------------ 16. Place the box (EQ-01431-02) with the new M7540 module on the VELOSTAT Mat. 17. Remove the module from the box and the protective covering and lay it on the VELOSTAT mat. This will bring the module to the same potential as the CPU and eliminate static discharge damage. 18. Insure that the module from the EQ kit is Rev "D1" or higher AND THAT THE REWORK NOTED IN STEP 15 IS PRESENT; install module in slot 24. 19. Return the old rev M7540 module ASAP for upgrade. 20. Proceed to step 25. M7540 MODULE REWORK ------------------- 21. Delete wire from E37.4 to E116.11 on Side 1. (See Figure 1) 22. Add wire from E37.4 to E37.8. Tack solder a wire to the legs of the IC located at position E37 (74F182) from pin 4 to pin 8. (See Figure 1) 23. Install Brady Marker "D1" on module handle. 24. Reinstall reworked M7540 module in slot 24. 25. Power up the system by setting the memory supply switch to the "ON" (1) position, setting the Main Circuit Breaker on the Power Controller to the "ON" (1) position and setting the five position key-switch on the console to the "LOCAL" position. 26. Run Micro 4 ETKAU, EVKAB and EVKAC at slow clock. NOTE: Micro 4, section 7, test 5D may fail. A revised Micro 4 (ETKAU Version 3.0) will be available in Diagnostic release 25 (October 1986). III. DOCUMENTATION UPDATE -------------------- 27. Update Site Management Guide to reflect this FCO. 28. Report FCO activity on LARS form in the "Module/fail area/FCO".
