An overvoltage condition can exist in Revision A, B, C, D and E, CVTs. Some Revision F CVTs might experience noise problems. Revisions A and B do NOT have circuit breakers. Revisions C, D, E and F CVTs HAVE circuit breakers accessible at the back of the CVT. Revisions A, B and all systems without CVTs, will be replaced with Revision H. ***************************************************************** * NOTE * * CVT Revisions C, D, E and F will NOT be changed UNLESS an * * apparent overvoltage/interference and/or noise problem * * exists. If applicable replace with a Revision H, CVT. * ***************************************************************** Problem: The RL02 in the front end cabinet, may be damaged if the CVT and RL02 are left ON and the BA11 box is OFF. If the RL02 overvoltages, the power regulator may be damaged through overheating, or may blow a fuse. The new Revision H CVT has been redesigned and will no longer cause this problem. The RL02 and the BA11 are both plugged into the CVT and can both be turned OFF by switching the CVT OFF. Revision A and B do NOT have CIRCUIT BREAKERS and therefore, cannot be switched off easily. Fix: Replace all CVTs with Revision levels; A, B or systems missing CVTs, with a Revision level H, CVT. For Revision levels C, D, E, and F CVTs, install Revision H, IF system has been experiencing an overvoltage/interference and/or noise problem. VAX8600 systems without CVTs had fans installed. These fans will have to be removed and discarded, they are no longer necessary. ***************************************************************** * CAUTION * * The weight of the CVT parts WILL REQUIRE an additional field * * engineer to assist with installation (review Sections 3 * * and 4; consider this prior to site installation). A 60hz * * CVT weighs 68 pounds (31 kg); and a 50hz CVT weighs 82 * * pounds (37 kg). * ***************************************************************** _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | | | | | | | | | | FCO KA86-I010 |d|i|g|i|t|a|l| | |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| | PAGE 4 OF 15 _______________________________|_________________________________________ FCO KA86-I010 CVT Installation CVT Applicability: ************************************************************** * NOTE * * Verify CVT revision level by referencing the Technical * * Description section on Page 2, prior to CVT rework. * ************************************************************** 1. If there is NO CVT present in the Front End cabinet, follow the the steps contained in Sections: Section 1 (Diagnostic Testing) Section 2 (Power Down) Section 4 (Adding a CVT) Section 5 (Cable Dressing and Power Up) 2. If the Revision level of the currently installed CVT is A or B, replace with a Revision H, CVT. By following the steps contained in the Sections listed below. CVT Revisions C, D, E and F will NOT be changed UNLESS an apparent overvoltage/interference and/or noise problem exists. If applicable replace with a Revision H, CVT.
