Firmware version 1.2 does not properly allow the VTX20 to display Videotex frames under all circumstances in that the Videotex emulation is not to specification (full details below). Output voltage on DBT03 modem port can drop below specified minimum resulting in VTX20 being unsupported by German PTT. No support for local printing in Videotex modes. Entering VTX setup from VT220 mode temporarily interrupts port 1 data flow. Control of backward channel when using a V23 modem is not supported. If no modem control is selected, the DTR and RTS lines are held low instead of high. Videotex emulation problems: Problem : ------- - VTX20 does not fully meet the PRESTEL specification regarding removal of attributes when writing to a cell with attributes set. - VTX20 does not treat mosaic character set as an attribute. - At slow reception speeds, VTX20 does not correctly display separate mosaics. - Writing the bottom row of double height characters does not delete existing text on that row. - Attempts to optimize handling of some attributes mean that they extend across areas they should not. - If no modem control is selected in PRESTEL mode, the F10 key should send the "exit" command, but does not. - After a recall to factory set parameters, VTX20 may attempt to use a BTX parser, even though PRESTEL is selected. - Using modem control in BTX mode, the terminal may hang after exiting a remote session. Symptoms : -------- - Attributes are not removed when writing new text to a cell. - Mosaic characters appear as ASCII text. - Areas that should have cross hatch shading appear solid. - Some spurious data appears on the same row as the bottom row of double height characters. - Attributes can extend beyond their originally defined areas. - Pressing F10 has no effect. - Display appears garbled. - VTX20 hangs after disconnecting from a remote BTX session. Quick Check: Continued from page 1. The FCO is not required if the firmware version displayed on any Videotex Set-Up screen is V2.2 or greater, or if the firmware ROMs are marked V2.2 or greater. Lift off the VR241 monitor, and disconnect all power and cables from the System box. 2. Remove the top cover. ********************************************************************* * CAUTION * *Use proper ESD protection to protect modules from static discharge.* ********************************************************************* 3. Remove the power supply/chassis assembly. 4. Remove the VT220 functionality module (P/N 54-17036-02). 5. Remove the Videotex logic module, and replace it with the new module supplied with this kit (Rev B2 or later). 6. Remove the DC power cable from the old VTX module, and fit it to the new module you have just installed. 7. Replace the VT220 functionality module. 8. Replace the power supply/chassis assembly, and the top cover. 9. Reconnect all cables, and place the VR241 monitor back in its original position. 10. Perform VTX20 self-test in accordance with the Pocket Service Guide. (The Set-Up screens should display V2.2). 11. When all tests have been passed the installation is complete. 12. Update the Site Management Guide to reflect this FCO. 13. Complete a fault tag showing that the module was consumed during FCO activity and return the old module for rework. 14. Report LARS activity as shown in example on page 4. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | FCO VTX20-I001 | | | | | | | | | |d|i|g|i|t|a|l| | PAGE 4 OF 4 |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| | | _______________________________|_________________________________________ LARS EUROPE Activity Contract and warranty Y Non Contract/Non Warranty F DEC Option VTX20-AX Type of Call M Action Taken I Fail Area-Module-FCO-Comments FCO VTX20-I001 Material Used EQ-01498-01 \^ VTX20 \\VTX20 \\BROWN \\1987 \\DEC \\FCO_DOCS
