UPGRADING THE 11785 MICROCODE TO REV E -------------------------------------- If the system has Rev C OR D microcode installed, it should be upgraded with Rev E, P/N AST793M-ME, before installing the hardware using the following procedure: 1. Log into the system and copy any custom made files from the console to your account. 2. If the system is running VMS 4.0 or greater run EXCHANGE and use the following commands. If the system is running VMS 3.X, go to step 5. EXCHANGE>COPY CSA1:DEFBOO.CMD *.* EXCHANGE>COPY CSA1: *.* (where filename is a site specific file on the console which you want on the new floppy) other than microcode. EXCHANGE>COPY/LOG CSA1:CI780.BIN/TRANSFER=BLOCK CI780.BIN (All microcode files must use the TRANSFER=BLOCK switch) 3. Copy DEFBOO.CMD and any other files to the new floppy which contains SSU01E.WCS. EXCHANGE>COPY DEFBOO.CMD CSA1:DEFBOO.CMD EXCHANGE>COPY CSA1: EXCHANGE>DELETE CSA1:CI780.BIN (delete microcode file you don't require from floppy) EXCHANGE>COPY/LOG CI780.BIN CSA1:CI780.BIN/TRANSFER=BLOCK EXCHANGE>EXIT 4. Proceed to step 7. 5. If the system is running VMS 3.X, MOUNT the floppy, run FLX and use the following commands. $MOUNT/FOREIGN CSA1: $MC FLX FLX>/RS=CS1:DEFBOO.CMD/RT FLX>/RS=CS1:/RT (where filename is any other file on the console which you want on the new floppy) 6. Run Shutdown by using the normal software procedures: $@SYS$SYSTEM:SHUTDOWN. 8. Set the five-position keyswitch on the console panel to OFF and set the Main Circuit Breaker on the Power Controller to the OFF (0) position. 9. Set all memory power supply switches to the OFF (0) position. ********************************************************* * WARNING * * * * If memory power supply switch is ON and circuit * * breaker on power controller is set to OFF, battery * * backup unit (if installed as an option) will be * * turned on. UPDATE THE M7460 MODULE TO REVISION "D1", "D2" or "D3" ------------------------------------------------------ QUICK CHECK: Wire from E68 pin 8 to E68 pin 5. **************************************************************** * NOTE * * * * This module can be reworked or replaced (order EQ 01425-02).* * If you are reworking the M7460 module, proceed to step 19. * **************************************************************** MODULE REPLACEMENT: ------------------- 10. Set up the VELOSTAT Kit: - Unfold the VELOSTAT mat to full size (24x24). - Attach the 15' ground cord to the VELOSTAT snap fastener on the mat. - Attach the alligator clip end of the ground cord to a good ground on the 11785. - Attach the wrist strap to either wrist and the alligator clip to a convenient portion of the mat. 11. Remove module M7460 from slot 2 and place it on the mat. 12. Inspect the removed M7460 module. If it is at Revision "D1" or higher, reinstall it and proceed to step 24. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | FCO 11785-3-R003 | | | | | | | | | |d|i|g|i|t|a|l| | PAGE 8 OF 16 |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| | _________________________________|_________________________________________ 13. If it is below Revision "D1", proceed to the next step and return the removed M7460 module in the anti-static bag and corrugated box ASAP to the designated repair center. 14. Place the box (EQ-01425-02) with the new M7460 module on the VELOSTAT Mat. 15. Remove the module from the box and the protective covering and lay it on the VELOSTAT mat. This will bring the module to the same potential as the CPU and eliminate static discharge damage. 16. Insure that the module from the EQ kit is Rev "D1" or higher and install in Slot 2. 17. Recommend running Microdiagnostic 1 and Macrodiagnostics EVKAB through EVKAE to insure proper operation of the M7460 module before proceeding to the next step. Refer to step 46 for power-up instructions and steps 7-9 to power down to continue installation. 18. Go to step 24. MODULE REWORK: -------------- 19. Follow Steps 10 through 12. 20. If the M7460 module is below rev "D1", perform the following rework: ************************************************************ * NOTE * * * * All references to direction (right, left, above, below) * * are made with the assumption that the module is laying * * flat on a table and the module fingers are facing you. * ************************************************************ a. Make the following etch cuts on Side 2 (See Figure 1, Page 14) (1) At E68-8; (2) At E136-11 - LEFT SIDE ONLY b. Add the following wires on Side 1 (See Figure 2, Page 15) (3) From E68-8 to E68-5 (4) From E68-4 to PTH below and attached to E149-3 (5) From E68-6 to E136-11 21. Attached brady markers "D1" (for Etch "A"), "D2" (for Etch "B"), and "D3" (for Etch "C"). NOTE THAT THE REWORK IS THE SAME FOR ALL ETCHES. 22. Recommend running Microdiagnostic 1 and Macrodiagnostics EVKAB through EVKAE to insure proper operation of the M7460. Refer to step 46 for power-up instructions and steps 7-9 to power down system and continue installation. III.REPLACEMENT OF M7468 THROUGH M7472 MODULES; BACKPLANE REWORK ------------------------------------------------------------ A. Replace M7472 module: 24. Remove module M7472 from slot 14 and place it on the mat. 25. Place the box (EQ-01425-01) with the new M7472 module on VELOSTAT Mat. 26. Remove the module from the box and the protective covering and lay it on the VELOSTAT mat. This will bring the module to the same potential as the CPU and eliminate static discharge damage. 27. Insure that the M7472 module from the EQ kit is Rev "C1" or higher and install in slot 14. QUICK CHECK FOR M7472 REV "C1","C2" is: Wire from E92-2 to E92-9. 28. Place the M7472 module removed from the machine into the anti-static bag and corrugated box and return ASAP for upgrade. B. Backplane Rework: ----------------- This rework is broken into two parts. The first part brings the backplane from revision "C1,C2" to "D1,D2". The second part brings the backplane from "D1,D2" or "E1,E2" to 70-20579-02 "A1,A2". Installation of the backplane rework that brings the backplane to either revision "E1,E2",or 70-20579-02 "A1,A2", causes the backplane to be non-backward compatible and only "YA" versions of the M7468 through M7471 will work correctly in this backplane. 29. Rework for Revision "C1,C2" to Revision "D1,D2" Remove wires from the following locations: a. From E09B2 to E12B2. b. From D10S1 to E09B2. Add wires in the following locations: c. From A13R1 to A12P2. d. From E09B2 to E12B2. e. From A12P2 to D10S1. f. From E14S2 to E13M2. g.
