Replace existing rubber mounted chassis slide brackets, with grounded brackets. This FCO implements ECO #H9652-MR002, which brings the H9652-FX to Revision level #D3. Problem Common-mode noise generated from the (CPU) MPS Power Supply, is being coupled into the BA11 box, which is mounted in the UNIBUS Expander Cabinet. Fix Replace existing rubber mounted chassis slide brackets, with grounded brackets. The BA11 box mounted in the UNIBUS Expander cabinet, is currently "floating ground", changing the chassis slide brackets will bring the BA11 box to the same potential as frame ground. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | FCO KA86-AA-AD-I-004 | | | | | | | | | |d|i|g|i|t|a|l| | PAGE 3 OF 10 |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| | | _______________________________|_________________________________________ SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS for EQ KIT The new chassis slide assembly may be either assembled or in separate pieces. In either case, ONLY the mounting brackets are used for this change. Prepare to install them in the following manner: If assembled; disassemble and use the mounting brackets and associated hardware except nuts (see Note before Step #9 of Rework Procedures). If in separate pieces, use only the mounting brackets and hardware except the nuts (see Note before Step #9 of Rework Procedures). GROUNDING REWORK PROCEDURE for CHASSIS SLIDE BRACKET *************************************************** * * * CAUTION * * * * The cabinet must be bolted to other cabinets, * * in order to install this change. * * * *************************************************** 1. Power OFF the 8600 by turning the SCP Terminal Control Switch to the OFF position. 2. In the UNIBUS Expander cabinet, place the Circuit Breaker to the OFF position on the 869D Power Controller. 3. Open the front panel door of the CPU cabinet and Set the Main Circuit Breaker (CB1) of the 876A to the OFF position. 4. Remove the FCC shielding at the rear of the BA11 box (see Figure 1). ***************************************************** * * * NOTE * * * * The following step is important for working * * access to the slide bracket and proper * * positioning of the BA11 box. * * * ***************************************************** 5. Pull the BA11 box all the way forward. Making sure both rear chassis slide locks have engaged, release the forward chassis slide locks. Push the box inward until the center slide member just reaches the rear locks. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | FCO KA86-AA-AD-I-004 | | | | | | | | | |d|i|g|i|t|a|l| | PAGE 4 OF 10 |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| | | _______________________________|_________________________________________ **************************************************************** * * * * * WARNING * * * * Remove and replace ONLY one bracket at a time. If two * * brackets are removed, the BA11 box, which can weigh in * * excess of 100 lbs, may FALL. Assure that the BA11 box * * is properly positioned such that the box's pivot points * * (black semi-circular plates), are approximately at the * * front of the cabinet frame vertical rails. * * * **************************************************************** 6. Beginning at either side of the cabinet, remove the rubber grommeted slide bracket, located at the rear of the cabinet (See Figure 2, Detail A). 7. Remove the two screws that attach the slide bracket to the chassis slide assembly. Save the screws and washers for re-assembly. 8. Remove the U-nut from hole #35 (See Figure 2, Detail A). 9. Attach the new bracket to the cabinet rails using #10 screws, three star washers and the supplied nut bar (See Figure 2, Detail B). ************************************************************** * * * NOTE * * * * The supplied KEP nuts must be used in the following step. * * * ************************************************************** 10. Attach the bracket to the chassis slide assembly using the screws and washers from the previous step, and the supplied 8-32 Kep nuts (See Figure 2, Detail B). 11. Repeat Steps #6 thru #10 (of this procedure) on the other slide bracket. 12. Push the BA11 box all the way to the rear of the cabinet. 13. Replace the FCC shielding at the rear of the BA11 box. The side of the shield with the smaller distance between the slotted screw holes and the edge must be at the top (See Figure 1). 14. Perform Steps #4 thru #13 (of this procedure) if a second BA11 box is installed in the cabinet. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | FCO KA86-AA-AD-I-004 | | | | | | | | | |d|i|g|i|t|a|l| | PAGE 5 OF 10 |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| | | _______________________________|_________________________________________ 15. Slide the BA11 box all the way back in. 16. Change the cabinet Revision to Rev. D3. 17. In the UNIBUS Expander cabinet, place the Circuit Breaker on the 869D Power Controller to the ON position. 18. In the CPU cabinet, set the Main Circuit Breaker (CB1), of the 876A, to the ON position. 19. Power on the 8600, by turning the SCP Terminal Control Switch to the ON position. 20. Re-boot the operating system. 21. Have the customer verify that the system is operational. 22. Enter the change in the Site Management Guide. 23. Fill out a LARS report (see samples at the end of this document). \^ KA86 \\KA86 \\KA86-AA \\KA86-AA-AD \\ROSEN \\1986 \\MAR \\FCO_DOCS
