_ FCO KN220-O001, Power-up self test writes in one loc in NVRAM ______________________________________________________________________________ | DIGITAL FCO CATEGORY PAGE 1 | | [O] OF 5 | |______________________________________________________________________________| | FIELD CHANGE ORDER NUMBER: KN220-O001 | |______________________________________________________________________________| | APPLICABILITY: All DECsystem 5500's with Revision D or E M7637-AA CPU | | modules. | | | |______________________________________________________________________________| | PROBLEM & SYMPTOM: Power-up self test writes in one location in NVRAM (Pres-| | toserve). If these self tests are run as a result of a power failure, this | | location will be corrupted BEFORE the NVRAM data is written back to the disk.| | There is no indication that data has been corrupted. | |______________________________________________________________________________| | SOLUTION: Rev D modules to be replaced with Rev F04 modules. Rev E modules | | to be upgraded with new EPROMs. | | | |______________________________________________________________________________| | QUICK CHECK: Look for M7637-AA revision stamped on handle to be F04 or | | verify that component E2 on the CPU module to be part number 23-161E8-00. | |______________________________________________________________________________| | PRE/CO-REQUISITE FCO: None. | MTTI HRS 1.0 | |______________________________________________________________|_______________| | TOOL/TEST EQUIPMENT: Standard service tool kit and anti-static equipment. | |______________________________________________________________________________| | FCO PARTS INFORMATION | | |___________________________________________________________| EQ KIT VARIATION | | FCO KIT NO. | DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS | APPLICABILITY | |______________|____________________________________________|__________________| | EQ-01634-01 | M7637-AA module and FA document. | | | EQ-01634-02 | 23-161E8-00, 23-162E8-00 and FA document | | | FA-04969-01 | FA document | | |______________|____________________________________________|__________________| | FCO CHARGING INFORMATION | |______________________________________________________________________________| | WARRANTY/CONTRACT || NONWARRANTY/NONCONTRACT | |___________________________||_________________________________________________| | ON-SITE | OFF-SITE || ON-SITE | OFF-SITE | MATERIAL ONLY | |_____________|_____________||_____________|_____________|_____________________| |TRAVEL/| EQ | | EQ ||TRAVEL/| EQ | | EQ |ORDER-ADMIN,HANDLING | |INSTALL| KIT |INSTALL| KIT ||INSTALL| KIT |INSTALL| KIT |PKG,SHIPPING & EQ KIT| |_______|_____|_______|_____||_______|_____|_______|_____|_____________________| | DEC | DEC | DEC | DEC || CUS | CUS | CUS | CUS | CUS | |_______|_____|_______|_____||_______|_____|_______|_____|_____________________| | APPROVALS | |______________________________________________________________________________| | CSSE |CSL LOGISTICS | CS PRODUCT SAFETY | | Peter Benoit |Barry Weinstein | Robert Brister | |___________________|____________________________|_____________________________| | CSSE MANAGER |This document is published | FCO RELEASE DATE | | Ron Caprio |on multiple media including | 16 December 1991 | |___________________|hardcopy, Customer Services |_____________________________| | MICROMEDIA |Microfiche Libraries, | FCO REVISION | | Diane MacDonald |Customer Services CD-ROM and| A | |___________________|MDS Microfiche Libraries. |_____________________________| | POPULATION 1298 | |PARTS AVAILABILITY-JAN, 1992 | |___________________|____________________________|_____________________________| +---------------------------+ | | | | | | | | | | FCO KN220-O001 | d | i | g | i | t | a | l | | | | | | | | | | | PAGE 2 OF 5 +---------------------------+ | _________________________________|______________________________________ Rework Instructions: ==================== NOTE: Despite the efforts used to determine whether the system to be upgraded needs a new module or new EPROMs, i.e. the QUICK CHECK on Page 1 of this FA Document, the Site Guide, the label on the bulkhead connector, the revision of the M7637-AA may not be known until the module is pulled from the slot. Please use accepted field engineering procedures when approaching this upgrade. Use accepted static precautions. Allow time for the customer to backup the system if needed; do the necessary paperwork upon completion. The 5500 may be in one of three different cabinets; the BA213, BA430, or the H9644. Consult the corresponding service manuals for proper system shutdown and module access. This document makes no attempt to address all possible scenarios that can lead up to the removal of the M7637-AA from the system. 1. Remove the M7637-AA module from the system. 2. Determine the revision of the module thus dictating the EQ kit to be used. Revision stamped on handle/stiffner (if present) E64 E2 E3 Kit ------------------- -------- ------------- ------------- ------------ D03 (FRS) or lower | LR3220 | 23-128E8-00 | 23-128E9-00 | EQ-01634-01 --------------------------------------------------------------------- E02 or E03 | LR3222 | 23-128E8-00 | 23-129E8-00 | EQ-01634-02 --------------------------------------------------------------------- F04 | LR3222 | 23-161E8-00 | 23-162E8-00 | None (done) --------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. If an EPROM kit is needed, simply: a. Remove the old EPROMs and install the new EPROMs. The old EPROMs are reusable, but cannot be returned for credit. They may be properly disposed of. b. Use a marker to rubout the module revision on the pin side of the handle/stiffner and re-label it F04 using an appropriate marker. c. Go to Step 4c. +---------------------------+ | | | | | | | | | | FCO KN220-O001 | d | i | g | i | t | a | l | | | | | | | | | | | PAGE 3 OF 5 +---------------------------+ | _________________________________|______________________________________ 4. If new module is needed: a. Remove the new module from the kit. Disable the Prestoserve battery backup on the old module (see above), fill out a repair tag (See Attachment B), attach the tag to the module and return it to the packaging of the new module. b. Enable the Prestoserve battery backup on the new module. (See Figure 1 on Page 4.) c. Install new module and test. d. The M7637 label on the bulkhead must be modified to reflect the new F04 revision. Also, the same is true for any applicable site guides. e. After completion of testing, the system is ready for operation in accordance with procedures applicable to the customer/site procedures. d. Follow example (Attachment A) when recording your labor activity. 5. The upgrade is complete. +---------------------------+ | | | | | | | | | | FCO KN220-O001 | d | i | g | i | t | a | l | | | | | | | | | | | PAGE 4 OF 5 +---------------------------+ | _________________________________|______________________________________ FIGURE 1 / \ / \ o------------------------------------------------------------o | M7637-AA | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +---------+ +----+ | | | E64 | | E3 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +---------+ +----+ | | +---------+ +---------+ +----+ | | | | | | | E2 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +---------+ +---------+ +----+ . |* | :]|** ++ +--+ +--+ +--+ ++ |||||||||||| |||||||||||||| |||||||||||||| |||||||||||||| *Prestoserve battery backup disabled **Prestoserve battery backup enabled *Prestoserve battery backup disabled **Prestoserve battery backup enabled +---------------------------+ | | | | | | | | | | FCO KN220-O001 | d | i | g | i | t | a | l | | | | | | | | | | | PAGE 5 OF 5 +---------------------------+ | _________________________________|______________________________________ Attachment A LARS EXAMPLE ITEM USA GIA EUROPE ---- --- --- ------ Category O O O Activity Codes: (a)Contract and Warranty W U Y (b)IN-DEC Contract/Warranty K K K Hardware Segment Code 111 111 01 Non Contract/Non Warranty F F F (c)RTD/Off-Site Agreement F F F Product Line 01 01 01 DEC Option 00-KN220-AA 00-KN220-AA 00-KN220-AA Type of Call M M M Action Taken D D D Fail Area-Module-FCO Comments KN220-O001 KN220-O001 KN220-O001 Material Used (module swap) EQ-01634-01 EQ-01634-01 EQ-01634-01 (EPROM swap) EQ-01634-02 EQ-01634-02 EQ-01634-02 (a) Warranty Optimum, Warranty Standard and Warranty Basic (on-site) Agreements.
