_ DEC-O-LOG for PB22H _ DOL, PB22H-O001, NMI errors reading floppy disk OCT 93 PROBLEM: System intermittently exhibits NMI errors when reading from floppy. The error is flagged by aparity error, and can result in system crash, and/or data corruption. FIELD EFFECTIVITY: This "O" coded FCO affects all revenue PB22H-CX/KB systems, of product family DEC 2000 AXP (DECpc-150 AXP) with serial numbers within AY325xxxxx and AY312xxxxx, containing CPU module part number 54-20764-01 at revision "E03" and below. This FCO incorporates ECO 5420674-TWO002. SOLUTION: Board swap CPU Board, Part No. 54-20674-01, Revision "E03" or below, with Revision "E04" on all revenue systems, with serial numbers within AY325xxxxx and AY312xxxxx. Manufacturing began shipping Revision E04 as of June 11, 1993. QUICK CHECK: Check that the system serial number is within AY325xxxxx and AY312xxxxx, and that motherboard components E125 and E163, are labeled with manufacturer's Part No. 74FCT374AT. Refer to instructions to locate parts. Test to ensure data can be read from floppy under NT Beta2 and later. FCO KIT ORDERING EQ-01687-01 54-20674-01 CPU Module at Revision "E04" FA-05023-01 FCO Document _ DOL, PB22H-O002, Firmware not OSF/1 compatible APR 94 APPLICABILITY: This "O" coded FCO affects all revenue PB22H-CX/KB systems, of product family DECpc-150 AXP with serial number within the range AY325XXXXX and AY312XXXXX, containing ADAPTEC 1742A SCSI controller module part number 30-40383-01 at Rev. "A03". This FCO should be ordered or implemented only upon customer request. This FCO incorporates ECO 3040383-DSG001. PROBLEM & SYMPTOM: The current firmware of the ADAPTEC 1742A SCSI controller is not compatible with OSF/1 operating system. Customers with revenue systems within the above serial number range, currently running NT or OpenVMS Operating Systems and want to run OSF/1 on their system will experience disk access problems and/or erratic system behavior if OSF/1 is loaded into the system. SOLUTION: On customer request only, replace EPROM on ADAPTEC 1742 SCSI controller with new EPROM chip containing the latest microcode Rev. "G.2" (part of EQ kit) QUICK CHECK: Check that the ADAPTEC 1742 SCSI controller module is at Rev. "A04 Locate component location U10, (socketed EPROM located near red LED "DS1") has the inscription "BCE3" which denotes the checksum for microcode Rev. "G.2". ALTERNATE QUICK CHECK: Use the VMS/OSF console and use SHOW DEVICE and note under the Rev. column what the host device 1742A lists as the Rev. In this manner the revision of the ADAPTEC 1742 SCSI controller module can be determined without opening the system enclosure.
